Minutes of Meeting with Masa held 20.02. 08.
Those Present:
Roy Pugh Chairman
Brian Tokely Vice Chair
Joyce Stewart Member
Joáquin Ruiz Lawyer
Daniel Bascuñana Masa
José Carrion Interpreter
The meeting began at 6pm.
Daniel began by apologising for his extreme lateness. He had been delayed at an
earlier meeting with Mazarrón Council, at which they were full of praise for the hotel
here on Camposol that had been officially opened the day before. He said that their
delight in the hotel, and the prestige it will bring to Mazarrón, has already improved
the relationship between Masa and the Council, and he is sure that it will now be
much easier for Masa to get things done here.
He had left that meeting feeling that the taking over of Sector A by the Council is
imminent, and he went on to say that his meetings with the C.R.A. are held in order
to work with us to solve all the problems that remain to be solved.
Roy agreed that we want the same thing, dialogue not confrontation, and
solutions to problems.
The meeting today was called by Daniel, to deal with unfinished business from
the last meeting held on 6th February and had the same Agenda.
Item 1. Was dealt with on February 6th.
Item 2. We asked for a decision regarding Rebecca 1070.
Item 4. Ditto Fortuna 2138.
Item 6. Ditto Fortuna 2171
Daniel said that Masa have their Architect's reports on all 3 of these
properties, and have made their decisions as to what will be done. These reports are
now with our lawyer for translation, and the owners will be contacted by Masa.
He also said that he is waiting for the architect's report on Fortuna 1814, which is not
on our list.
Item 3. Update on Abril 28 licences
Deferred to next meeting.
Item 5. ¿Inspection reports on 2 properties reported in December?
Deferred to next meeting.
Item 7. At the last meeting we requested an inspection of the pool of Mr. Gray,
Neptuno2494 D7.
No date fixed yet, but Daniel will look into it.
Item 8. Road surfaces breaking up
Should have been done last week, he will find out why it wasn't and report
back to us.
Item 9. A letter of complaint from Mr. And Mrs. Durn of Neptuno 2715 D24 was
handed in.
Item 10. Daniel was asked could the cleaning of the Commercial Centre on B be
done more regularly, especially the walkway ramp.
Ans. It will be done, but, “How can he stop the graffiti”?
Item 11. We asked is there any further news about the proposed Correos office.
Daniel has heard nothing new but he will make enquiries before next meeting
This being the last item on the agenda, the meeting closed at 18.45pm.
Next meeting: Wednesday 5th March, 2.30pm. at Hotel.
21st Feb Discussion with the lawyer 20th Feb.
N.B. For those interested, there was no meeing with Masa last Wednesday, as D. Bascanuna did not arrive. However, there was a meeting yesterday, minutes of which will be placed on hot news as soon as I receive them.
Meeting with Joáquin Ataz Ruiz, Wed. 20.02.08.
After the cancellation of last weeks meeting with Masa which Joáquin was also
to attend, he had been contacted to stress the need for him to produce the report as a
matter of urgency. It was agreed that we would allow time either before or after
todays meeting with Masa to update us on the matters of;
The Report;
Such information as he had from the Minister of Roads reference the access road
shown on the plans which has not been built;
and also the response from the Associacion de Agua to our request that he visit
Camposol.
The Report.
Joáquin apologised for the fact that the Report has taken so long, and said it is the
translation of it which is causing the delay. He used to have an assistant with fluent
english, but he no longer works for Garrigues. His current staff do not speak english
at all, and he himself has had to give up his classes in English due to pressure of
work. He told of the difficulty of translation from Legalese Spanish into everyday
English. (Anyone learning Spanish will probably know that the biggest problem for
us is the fact that where in english we use only five or six tenses, Spanish has sixteen,
one of which is only used in legal documents and reference books and is not usually
taught to foreigners as they are unlikely to need it. Nor is it given much attention in
the Spanish education system as it is not spoken, only written. Rather like doctors in
UK speak english but write in Latin.)
He has begun the translation of the report, but has realised that the task is beyond
him. He wants to be certain that it says in english exactly what it means in spanish.
He has not been able to find a qualified legal translator in Murcia so he is going to
send the report to the Madrid office of Garrigues, where they have a specialist legal
translator. He will stress the need for a quick response, and we should have it early
March.
In the interim we will have a copy of the spanish version by next week.
Access Road.
The construction and maintenance of Motorways such as the AP7 is financed by
Central Government.
The not yet open Motorway between Totana and Fuente Alamo is being financed by
Central Government.
The Motor way through Camposol, is being financed by the Regional Government of
Murcia, hence RM3.
The Regional Government is not resposible for access roads, only for the slip roads
and the roundabouts at the ends of the slip roads, and the lighting of same.
The cost of access roads such as the one shown on the plans between the motorway
and the commercial centre has to be found by the local council.
Given that the local council has not shown any eagerness to take resposibility for
anything relating to Camposol so far, at Joáquin's suggestion, a letter is to be sent to
the council pointing out the totally unsuitable, and dangerous situation as it stands.
Roy is to draft this letter pointing out that there are some 3,000 houses, a commercial
centre, and a now open 5 star hotel, all served by what is little more than a single
carriageway road around the commercial centre as both entrance and exit. Joáquin
will do the translation and this letter will be sent to the council every month in the
hope that persistent pressure will get something done sooner rather than later.
Roy is also to send to Joáquin a copy of the published plans as clarification
N.B. The Mayor and several Councillors were at the official opening of the Hotel
yesterday. Their verdict that the Hotel is 'stupendous' and 'the best in Murcia' should
help our argument. They can hardly have failed to notice that the way in leaves a lot
to be desired.
Visit by Associacion de Agua.
In response to our request to Joáquin that he try to arrange a visit by an official of
this associacion to look again at the problems caused by lack of drainage in areas
seriously affected by heavy rain, he has contacted the associacion several times in
the last month. Thus far he has had no success. He has spoken to the secretary of the
official concerned but the official himself has been unavailable, and has not returned
the calls. He will keep trying.

Meeting with Masa 6th February 2008
Those Present;
Roy Pugh Chairman Daniel Bascuñana Masa
Brian Tokely Vice Chair Ricardo ? Interpreter
Joyce Stewart Member
The meeting began promptly at 5pm.
Item 1. Answers to Masa.
As requested by Daniel at our last meeting, it was confirmed that of the
houses affected by subsidence on D7, eight of the owners have engaged
their own Lawyer and they will deal directly with Masa.
Items 2,4,5,6,and 7. Properties Affected by Subsidence.
Daniel apologised for the fact that he was unable to give an answer today.
He has a meeting on Monday next, at which will be drawn up a Schedule of
Work on these properties.
Item 3. Abril 28 Licences.
Daniel told us that he has a meeting with the Council of Mazarrón next
week on Wednesday morning to again discuss with them this issue.
He asked could we meet again next Wednesday afternoon, when he should
be able to give answers to all of the above.
Item 8. Road Surfaces Breaking Up.
We reported that the asphalt is breaking up in several places throughout
Camposol, and one resident has told of momentary losses of power as the
traffic passes over the hole in the road outside their house. Daniel assured
us that all these areas should be repaired this week while the asphalters are
on site laying the road surfaces to the Hotel.
Meeting ended at 5.30pm. Next arranged for Wed 13th at 5pm at Marianos.
10th Feb 2008
C.R.A. FUNDRAISING
A meeting was held on Wednesday 23rd January 2008 at Rosa 335, Calle Santiago de Compostella.
Present
Committee members: Fundraisers:
Roy Pugh Robert Taylor
Brain Tokely Val Taylor
Max Minter Bill Nouch
Joyce Stewart Joan Nouch
Roy began the meeting by introducing the two new fundraisers.
He gave a resume of the history of the C.L.C. and explained that while the issues of “Touristica” and subsidence have been the subject of much discussion over recent months, the aim of the C.L.C. were and are, those given in the Statement of Intent published 19.02.07
He then went on to explain the various ways funds are raised;
Bonus Ball.
Max and Val have devised a system of keeping track of the various ways that regular players pay in. e.g. Some holiday-homers pay up to 6 months in advance keeping the same number, others who are residents pay weekly but want their same number and are unhappy if it is not available. The system covers both, works well, it keeps the customers happy, is simple to follow and prevents confusion. Roy stressed the importance of all who do desk duty adhering to it. Max pointed out that there are several unclaimed prizes and Val asked how long these should be kept. It was decided that if unclaimed within 12 months, the monies would be put into the Lawyers Fund.
(A note to this effect on the board perhaps?).
Monthly Boot Fair.
The stall is a very successful fundraiser averaging €350 - €400 pcm. At the moment this is no shortage of donations in fact the problem is lack of storage space. Val and Bob are happy to continue being the early birds who claim the pitch, but as Max and his wife Pam, will no longer be here to help after 9am, Joan and Bill have volunteered to help whenever they are here.
Roy will advertise again for more helpers.
Ref. storage; It is proving difficult to find an alternative to Max’s under-build. Stock is currently in Mary and Barry’s summer house, but obviously cannot remain there long. Joan suggested buying a metal shed if anyone had roof or garden space for it. Idea to be costed and put to committee. As the whiteboard on which the takings from the boot were displayed – as well as other items of transient interest – has disappeared from Kennellys, it is also necessary to replace that.
Committee members should also be aware that the rumour/slander machine is again in operation. It is apparently being said that the takings from the boot are not going into the Fund but being creamed off. Should this comment be made to you perhaps you should tell the person that Val and Bob carry no money of their own when they work on the stall, and that they leave with equally empty pockets, and mention also that the laws of slander in Spain are as they are in the U.K..
Race Night, Kennellys 19th March.
Max reported that the tickets are printed and he has made the necessary arrangements with Colin, we have only to sell the tickets.
Dance, Rumours Friday 18th April.
The tickets are already printed for this event, but a possible change of venue was mooted as some feel that the cost of food and drink here is high. Raffle prizes, and the possibility of asking for donations for same was discussed. Brian offered to approach Joaquin’s brother, and Max his friend in electrical goods. Booking needs to be confirmed with Johnny Sparrow. Max has handed over his contacts diary and Roy will contact Johnny.
Barbeque, possibly Saturday 10th or 17th May.
No venue yet arranged. It is hoped that Mary and Barry may be willing to allow the use of their garden again, but we have to await their return before any decision is made.
Rock and Roll Night. June?
The idea of holding an outdoor event, possibly at Marianos, was suggested. Rock nights are popular with many people on Camposol, and an event such as this could appeal to a different group of people. The idea was noted for future consideration.
A.O.B
Having updated Roy on all arrangements made concerning future events, Max handed in his resignation from the committee. He and his wife are leaving Camposol for pastures new. Roy thanked him for the time and effort he has put into committee work, and in getting the social side of fundraising off the ground, and wished Max and Pam well in their new life in Almeria.
N.B. There was a games night planned for February 7th, but this had to be cancelled due to lack of support.
News 2nd Febrary 2008.
In case people are not aware, Mary Cooper ( Secretary C.R.A. ) has been ill since before Christmas. She plans to resume har duties at the beginning of March. I have asked for any stray minutes to be sent by her, and Joyce, who is acting minute taker, to myself or the web providers a.s.a.p. as I am aware there is some concern that we are not updating people on the current situation.
I can tell you that the next scheduled meeting with Masa will be next Wednesday 6th February.
And, we expect The Lawyers Report to be ready this month, if so, we will put a synopsis of it in the March edition of The New Camposol Courier.
Also, please note, the
GAMES NIGHT which was scheduled for this month at Rumours has been cancelled due to lack of interest.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the fundraising is essential for the CRA to ensure we can help the residents of Camposol; 1400 households on various sectors which have been designated as turistico will benefit directly from the work of our lawyers and committee members. Many homes on D7 which have subsidence also look to us for support. If you are approached to buy tickets for events, or items for our stall at the Sunday Market on Camposol once a month, please give generously.
Thank you.
